Buying a Home in San Diego: Coronado

If you’re looking for a gorgeous, quiet community with a reasonable commute to downtown San Diego, you can’t go wrong with Coronado. Situated just across the San Diego bay, Coronado offers the perfect mix of relaxation and recreation for anyone looking to settle in America’s Finest City.

In Spanish, Coronado means “the crowned one,” and the name couldn’t be more appropriate. The city is renowned for its luxurious lodgings and upscale dining. Three major beach resorts are located in Coronado (along with many other inns and hotels), and Coronado Beach has been rated as one of the best in the country by The Travel Channel.

Because of the town’s resort-like atmosphere, you’ll never run out of things to do in Coronado. There are multiple theaters, golf courses, hiking trails and marinas throughout the city, as well as expansive shopping on Orange Avenue. Once the sun sets, the city offers upscale, low-key nightlife in various pubs and lounges. If you’re feeling a bit wilder, downtown San Diego is only a few minutes away by streetcar.
The Crown City is also famous for its festivities, most notably their Fourth of July celebration, which includes a 15k run, a rough water swim, multiple concerts and a two-hour parade down Orange Avenue. In the spring, Coronado also hosts the Coronado Flower Show, an 85-year-old floral exhibition that’s considered the largest under-tent flower show in the West.

Coronado is home to about 25,000 residents, most of whom are married couples and families. Because of the town’s luxurious atmosphere, homes tend to be on the pricier side. A two-bedroom home in Coronado can cost about $900,000. This might seem out of reach for many young families, but you should keep in mind that you get what you pay for, including access to one of the best school districts in the state.

Buying a house in Coronado is a great investment for anyone looking to find their dream home in California. Beautiful vistas and a high standard of living make the Crown City one of the best places on the West Coast to raise a family or just spend your golden years.
