Buying a Home in Connecticut: Fairfield


With a population of 50,000, Fairfield sits on the border of a large town and a small city. However you choose to classify it, though, Fairfield is undeniably one of the best places to live in the entire Northeast. If you’re buying a house in Connecticut, you’ll definitely want to target this town as a possible site for your next dream home.

Located in the aptly named Fairfield County, the town of Fairfield takes up about 31 square miles along Connecticut’s southern border. Though it’s the hometown of General Electric, Fairfield is better known for its historic churches, its acres of dogwood trees and its rustic waterfront. According to the town’s residents, the fishing isn’t half-bad either.

Named the ninth best place to live in America by Money magazine, Fairfield has plenty to boast about. For instance, its education system is considered one of the best in the country and features eleven primary schools, four middle schools, two high schools and two public universities. On top of that, in Fairfield you’ll find two public theatres, a famous shopping district, multiple marinas and some of the best public beaches and parks in the Constitution State.  And if you want to experience the big city, New York and Boston are only a few hours away.

Fairfield’s residents haven’t been able to keep the town’s sprawling green acres a secret from the state’s wealthy residents, and as a result, some serious upper-class development has been going on since 2009. Though a modestly sized four-bedroom home can be still be picked up for less than $400,000, there are some estates in the town limits selling for as high as $7 million.
