Do Real Estate Agents Need a Blog?

Whether you’re a budding real estate agent or you’ve been in the business for years, you may be missing out on an important selling tool: a blog. A blog lets you give quick updates about your market, and it can serve as a great tool to let buyers know you’re serious about what you do. If you’re starting a blog for your real estate agent practice, here are a few tips:

Your blog can help you advertise an open house. Tired of sitting around, waiting for people to show up at an open house? By putting your open house announcements online, you’re reaching an entirely new audience. You can even hold a virtual open house, complete with pictures and videos, to help your clients sell their homes.

Know your clients. Depending on your area, you may decide to cater to retirees who are looking for a relaxing place to retire or to young college graduates seeking excitement and fun. Write your blog for the clients you hope to attract. You can highlight the great neighborhood amenities, the fantastic city-planned events or the restful nature of your area.

Write about more than just properties. While it’s important to highlight the properties you’re trying to sell on your blog, it can also be a great way to help potential clients learn about your neighborhood. Many people turn to the Internet when they’re considering moving to a distant locale – so blogging about all the fun things that happen in your area can be a great way to sell those people on your city or neighborhood.

Make sure you update frequently. Nothing is worse than finding a blog that is only updated sporadically. Keep your blog fresh by posting at least once a week. It helps to make blogging one of your regular tasks. Today’s blogging programs let you enter in your blog posts, then schedule them to be published to the Internet at some point in the future – so feel free to write two or three posts and set them to automatically publish throughout the week.

Read books or take a class. You can quickly and easily learn more about blogging by educating yourself. Once you get yourself up to speed, your blogs can incorporate everything from pictures to videos and other kinds of fun formatting. You’ll also learn about search engine optimization, or SEO, which can help people find you when they search the Internet for a good real estate agent.

Blogs are a fantastic way to show people that you’re a professional. They can also give people a feel for your personality, your neighborhood and the homes you sell. If you’re considering updating (or starting) your website, think about adding a blog.
