Buying a Home in San Diego: Pacific Beach

Bounded by La Jolla and Mission Bay, Pacific Beach is a surfer’s dreamland that’s quickly turning into a great neighborhood for professionals and young families. A happening nightlife, great beaches and famous boardwalk make it one of the best places to live in America’s Finest City.

The beach itself stretches for miles along Mission Bay, and the boardwalk seems positively endless. Pedestrians, roller-bladers and bikers flock to Ocean Front Walk every day to explore the shops and sights. And if that’s not enough to convince you that Pacific Beach is a real gem, then consider the naming scheme: the streets here are named after precious stones, like Diamond St. and Emerald Ave.

The community is a perfect place for the young and the young at heart. There are dozens of nightclubs, bars and restaurants on and around Garnet Avenue. These hotspots cater to Pacific Beach’s 30,000 residents and draw the majority of San Diego’s student population every weekend. You don’t need to be a night owl to enjoy Pacific beach, though. It’s a great place to surf, and you’ll find parks and walking paths throughout the neighborhood.

While Pacific Beach has traditionally been dominated by student rental properties, more and more families are flocking to the area to live out their own California dreams. Because of this, home prices are on the rise, and you should expect to pay at least $300,000 for a three-bedroom home. If you’re looking for something a little more high-end, you can also find properties that go for $1 million or more in the neighborhood.

If you’re looking for fun, keep Pacific Beach at the top of your list. Great waves and a happening nightlife make the community a perfect place to invest in San Diego real estate.
