Increase the Property Value on Your Connecticut Home

Property value makes a huge difference when you’re trying to sell a home, particularly in Connecticut. Although there are new homes available in the state, most homes are older properties that have been renovated to suit modern buyers’ tastes. If you’re selling a home in Connecticut, try a few of these simple tips to increase your property value:

  • Change up the windows. New windows can mean big bucks, particularly in snowy areas, such as Connecticut. Installing energy efficient windows can be a big selling point with today’s modern eco-conscious consumers. If the windows are already in good shape, make sure to give them a thorough cleaning – they’ll look as good as new, plus the home will look lighter.
  • Go for natural materials. As we’ve mentioned before, updated kitchens and bathrooms can reel in buyers and get them hooked on your house. When you have a choice, always install natural materials. If granite counter tops aren’t in your budget, consider going with a nice imitation version.
  • Repaint the inside. Nothing makes a home look nicer than a fresh coat of paint. If the idea of an all-white paint job makes you cringe, at least stick with neutrals. You may love the idea of a bright yellow master bedroom, but a potential buyer might not be so thrilled. Stick with light, bright neutrals that will make the home look fresh and airy.
  • Go green (literally). You should always devote a portion of your renovation money to landscaping. A fresh green lawn trimmed with gorgeous colorful flowers can make your home look well-loved and in good shape.
  • Finish it. If your basement is dank and in need of some TLC, consider finishing it. Not only will you add more square footage to your house, you’ll also raise your property value by including more living space. If finishing the basement is completely out of your budget, at least make sure you fix any major leaks. Today’s home buyers are very savvy and will bid low if they anticipate putting lots of work into a home.

Improving your property value doesn’t have to be a large undertaking. You can make your Connecticut property worth more with just a few simple changes.
